Walter William Schneider Jr.

Walter "Bill" William Schneider JR. 74, of Ovid, passed away on April 14, 2024, at his home in Ovid, CO.

Bill was born July 8, 1949, in Scottsbluff, NE, to Walter and Dorothy (Wallace) Schneider. He graduated from Weld Central High School in CO. After graduating, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force and served proudly for six years.

Bill married Cindy Shirl on October 25, 1985, in Las Vegas. Bill proposed before they ever had a date. He proposed in the middle of the street while the car was stopped at a red light. Thirty-eight years later, it worked out. They lived in California for a time, managing an apartment complex. They moved to Alliance to manage a Super 8. They bought a restaurant in Oshkosh before moving to Ovid in 1991.

Bill ran a body shop, Finish Line Auto Body, for years in Ovid. He owned the Stockade bar in Ovid for a few years, where he tended the bar. Bill ran the race track in Julesburg for eight years, which was his pride and joy. One of his enjoyments was taking a race team to Topeka one year. His family enjoyed running the race track at Julesburg, CO.

Bill was a prankster. He always had a joke. At the bar, people referred to him affectionately as Buffalo Bill. He was kind and would always lend a hand, from fixing sprinklers for people to helping a stranger in need. He loved to fish. He had a pleasant personality.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Georgia Jorgenson and Kathy Hassett, and one grandson, Keith Schneider.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cindy; children, Tara Dreiling of Hudson, CO, Cassie Ruhl of Greeley, CO, Eric Schneider of FL, Carl Schneider of Ovid, CO, and Renee (Dean) Bayston of CA; nine grandchildren, Caleb, Thomas, Jessica, Jody, Dillion, Matthew, Michael, and Shelby; and great-grandchildren Isaiah William, Isabella, Braden, Jason, and Mia; and one sister Marcia Schneider of Gering, NE, and her children, Troy, Mark, and Tim. He also has many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Bill's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsjulesburg.com.
