Richard L. Dawson

Richard Loren Dawson, Jr., 82, of Julesburg, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2023, at the Sedgwick County Nursing Home in Julesburg, Colorado.

Born on September 18, 1941, Richard grew up in South Bend, Indiana, moving to Longmont, CO in 1952. His parents, Martha Ahlgrim and Richard Loren Dawson Sr. instilled in him a strong sense of family values and a deep faith.

On November 22, 1959, Dick married the love of his life, Janice L. Behrmann, at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont, Colorado. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love and commitment that spanned over six decades. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children, Rhonda, Tamara, and Richard "Ricky" III.

Richard was a purchaser of electrical equipment for years for Ryall Electric and later for Progress Associates.

Beyond his professional life, Dick was a man of passion and adventure. He shared a deep love for the outdoors with Jan, often spending their free time fishing, backpacking, and camping and enjoying the family cabin he and his father built in 1955. Per his humor, Dick had a remark for almost everything life would bring. He had an immense love for his family and a way of taking care of them that was his own. He also spent most of his retired years volunteering at the Orphan Grain Train.

Dick's faith was an integral part of his life. He was a dedicated member of the Lutheran Church.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Tammy Dawson of Julesburg and Rhonda (Bill) Ward of Aurora, and four grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Marlo (Bob) Bryan of Berthoud, CO, and other relatives and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Jan, in July of 2023; son, Richard "Ricky" Loren Dawson III, and his parents, Martha and Richard Loren Dawson Sr.; along with siblings, Patricia Wilhelm and Carol Cortrite, Jim Reinking.

Memorials are suggested to St Paul's Lutheran Church or to the Lutheran Hour in Dick's memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Julesburg, with Reverend Trenton D. Christensen officiating. Committal will be in the Arvada Cemetery at a later date.
