Phyllis Thompson, age 87, of Big Springs, passed away peacefully on September 17,2024. A memorial service to celebrate Phyllis's life will be held at the Assembly of God church in Big Springs at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024, with Chaplain Robin Storer and Pastor Jared Mitchell co-officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SEND International, care of Clayton and Laura Johnson, appointee. This is a Missions group that Phyllis' granddaughter Laura serves in along with her husband Clayton. Interment of ashes will take place at Big Springs Cemetery following the services. A reception will be held back at the church after the burial, where family and friends can gather to share memories.
Phyllis was born on August 22, 1937, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Harley and Ruth (Hemm) Henderson, joining her older brother Richard. Phyllis graduated from North Platte High School in 1957 and pursued further education at the Rocky Mountain Bible Institute for two and a half years. It was there that she met the love of her life, William "Eldo" Thompson. Eldo, known for his "chivalry", would hold doors open for all the ladies, but he reserved a special wink just for Phyllis. The two were married in 1959 and together they built a beautiful family, welcoming four children: Linda Kaye, Timothy Eldo, Lisa Joy, and Jason Lee.
Eldo worked for the City of Boulder for over 20 years, and in 1972, Phyllis began an in-home daycare, driven by her deep love and passion for children. Her nurturing spirit and godly nature were evident in her lifelong commitment to being an active member of the church, wherever she and her family lived. In her later years, she was a dedicated member of the Big Springs Assembly of God Church and generously volunteered for the senior lunch program. Phyllis was known for her kindness, her welcoming heart, and especially her adoration for her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her devoted husband William Eldo Thompson, and her older brother Richard Henderson.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, remembered fondly by all who knew her. Her survivors include her sons Timothy Thompson (fiancée Sherry Roan) and Jason Thompson; her daughters Linda (Bill) Vance, and Lisa (David) Evans; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and of course her furry companion of nine years, Muffin.
Phyllis Thompson will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
