KIYOKO KOBAYASHI, 94 of Ovid, passed away May 3, 2019, at the Sedgwick County Hospital in Julesburg.
Kiyoko was born May 17, 1924, at Stockton, California to George and Misao (Hirafuji) Yoshida. She graduated from LaJara High School in Colorado.
In June of 1947, Kiyoko married Thomas T. Kobayashi in a marriage that was arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Kuichi Inouye of Sedgwick and Mr. and Mrs. J Noda of Denver.
The couple moved to the Ottman farm that Thomas' parents had been farming in Ovid in 1947, where they resided their entire married lives. Mr. Kobayashi passed away in 2011.
Kiyoko worked on the farm, drove tractors for windrowing beans and topping sugar beets. She enjoyed gardening and especially loved growing and canning vegetables. Kiyoko also greatly enjoyed fishing and was an excellent cook.
Kiyoko was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Joanne Knight; grandson, Robert Knight; sister, Yasuko (Akira) Otsuka; brothers Masao and Grant (Alma) Yoshida.
Survivors include her daughters, Donna (Robert) Miller of Ovid, CO, Joyce (George) Barrett of Fergus Falls, MN, Carole (Ray) Sierchio of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Keith Miller of PA, Kristi Miller of NE, Thomas Knight, CO; Cherame Barrett of CO, Patrick Barrett of CO; great-grandchildren, Alyssa of AZ, and Josephine Miller of PA; 1 great-great-grandchild, Charlie Knight of AZ. Survivors also include her siblings, Sumi Tanaka, Elaine (Frank) Sugihara, Karen Tanaka, Janet (Kiyoshi) Nakata, Harlan (Emi) Yoshida, Bryon (Joanne) Yoshida; along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established in Kiyoko's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsjulesburg.com.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 4:00 p.m. at the Sedgwick Buddhist Temple in Sedgwick, CO. Inurnment will be in the Sedgwick Cemetery at a later date.
