Karen C. Munson, 69, of Sedgwick, CO, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Sedgwick County Hospital in Julesburg.
Karen was born on December 25, 1954, in Newcastle, PA, the daughter of Arthur Alexander and Pauline (Conti) Ezzo. She graduated from Neshannock High School in 1972 and subsequently earned a certificate from New Castle Beauty School in 1973. She was a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating "Our Studio of Hair Designs."
Her academic journey continued with an internship at the New Castle Chamber of Commerce in 1987, leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Slippery Rock University in 1988. Relocating to Deadwood, SD, she served as a Tourism Specialist at Deadwood Economic Development, where she was instrumental in developing the "Shoe Shine Brigade" during the downtown reconstruction.
In 1989, Karen moved to Colorado, serving as a Tourism Specialist at Northeastern Junior College while pursuing a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Operations Management from Regis University, graduating in 1993. Karen's career included roles as Registrar at NJC and positions in the accounting offices at Sedgwick County Memorial Hospital and Gary Price Spraying. She cherished her time as the owner and operator of the picture frame shop "You've Been Framed by Karen," which she ran for ten years before retiring in 2019.
Karen married Glen Munson on September 25, 1999. Together, they raised two sons, Marc Allen and Roger Lee Munson. A devout and active member of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Julesburg, Karen's life was a testament to her faith and love for the community.
Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, knitting, embroidery, wool hooking, cross stitching, camping, boating, and cruising, which she enjoyed sharing with her family and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Glen Munson of Sedgwick; sons, Marc and Roger Munson, both of Sedgwick; and a sister, Katherine Georgic of Wheatridge, CO; niece, Melissa Schafer of NY; nephew, Kyle Georgic of CO, and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Karen's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared online at prairiehillsjulesburg.com, where the Mass will be streamed live.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 10 AM at St. Anthony Of Padua Catholic Church in Julesburg, with Father Michael O'Brien as celebrant. A private interment of cremains will be in the Sedgwick Cemetery.
