John Alvarez

Johnnie Raymond Alvarez, 66, of Sedgwick, passed away at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver.

Johnnie was born on August 24, 1956, in Julesburg, Colorado, to Manuela "Nellie" Dominguez and Salvador Alvarez. He was a proud alum of Revere High School, where he graduated in 1975.

Upon graduation, Johnnie answered the call to service by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in January 1977. He served his country diligently for three years, earning an Honorable Discharge in January 1980.

Never one to be tied down, Johnnie lived a life full of travel and adventure. He spent some time living in California before eventually returning home to Colorado.

Johnnie's entrepreneurial spirit shone through in his successful company, Alvarez Recycling and Hauling, where he contributed significantly to the Denver, Colorado, community. His dedication to his work was evident, and his impact will be long-lasting.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his loving parents, Manuela "Nellie" Alvarez and Salvador Alvarez. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jose Dominguez, and Virginia Alcantar Dominguez, as well as several cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His memory will be carried on by his surviving siblings: his sisters, Gloria J Dominguez of Sedgwick, Victoria (Adolfo) Lopez of Fort Morgan, and brother Tommy J Alvarez of Sedgwick. He is also survived by his nephew, Juan (Maria) Lopez of Fort Morgan, and their six children; Isaac, Yvonne (Hollan), Juan (Crystal), Victor, Favian, and Damian.

A Funeral Mass will be held on June 8, 2023, at 10 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am at the church. Inurnment with military honors will be in the Sedgwick Cemetery.
