JACK O. SHEAFFER JR., 71 of Julesburg, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019, at his home in Julesburg.
Jack was born March 29, 1947, at Iliff, Colorado to Jack and Katherine (Wiesenburg) Sheaffer Sr. Jack graduated from Crook High School.
In 1968, Jack married Doris Jacobson, and their union was blessed with a daughter, Tracy. Jack worked as an auto mechanic for many years in Julesburg and owned his own shop, Jack's Repair. He served on both the fire department and rescue squad in Julesburg for many years, much of them were spent as fire chief. Following a divorce, Jack moved to Merino, where he worked in car sales and was active in the local fire department. Most recently, Jack had been working for Sedgwick County, maintaining the county grounds.
Jack was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast. He loved spending time in the mountains elk hunting as well as horseback riding. Jack also had a penchant for working on cars. He also dedicated a great deal of time and effort into the fire departments that he'd served in.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his daughter, Tracy Oevermann of Motley, MN; grandchildren, Steven Huston of St. Cloud, MN, Chayse Huston of Motley, MN, and Kimberlee Rumsey of Menahga, MN; two great-grandchildren, Brayden Rumsey, and Dax Huston; along with many friends.
A memorial has been established in Jack's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsjulesburg.com.
Memorial services will be on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Julesburg. No interment of Cremains is planned at this time.
