Gwen M. Kalb

Gwen M. Kalb, 81, of Chappell, Nebraska, passed away on April 17, 2024, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke, Colorado.

Gwen was born on October 7, 1942, in Sidney, Nebraska, the daughter of William and Inez (Newberg) Johnson. She completed her education at Chappell High School and earned a degree from Luther Junior College in Wahoo, Nebraska.

On October 12, 1963, Gwen married Gerald Kalb at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chappell. The couple settled on the Kalb family farm located between Chappell and Julesburg, where they raised their two children, Jeff and Jennifer.

Gwen dedicated many years to working at a local dental office in Chappell, where she cherished her interactions with patients and colleagues alike. Her passion for her job was evident, and she often spoke of how much she enjoyed the dental work and the community it brought into her life.

Her life was further enriched by her grandchildren, who brought a new dimension of joy to her world. Gwen was an avid baker, known especially for her cookies, and she had a love for shopping. Her interests also included traveling, with a fondness for cruises she shared with her husband, and collecting Southwest artifacts.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, and her parents. She is survived by her son, Jeff (Trish) Kalb of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Jennifer (Todd) Wortmann of Englewood, Colorado; grandchildren, Marie and Brian Kalb, Trevor and Cassidy Wortmann; sister, Charleen Wilber of Julesburg; along with many other relatives and friends.

A memorial book signing will be on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 3 PM to 6 PM at Prairie Hills Funeral Home in Julesburg. A private interment will be in the Chappell Cemetery.
