Gloria Ann Rees Kinnison was born March 14, 1936, to Carl and Mary Hankins Rees in Julesburg, CO. She was called to her eternal home on December 25, 2024, Christmas morning, in Julesburg.
After graduating high school, she married Robert (Bud) Kinnison on December 30, 1953. They were married just shy of 71 years. With the exception of living in England for 18 months with Bud while he was in the Army, their entire life has been on the Ovid farm. They raised four children: Wayne (Susan), Mary Lu, David (Sharla), and Peggy. Gloria's life was a busy one. She was a "gray lady" in her younger years. She was very involved in her church throughout her life and served as a Sunday School teacher, Lay Leader, and Youth Leader, as well as on many committees and the Methodist Women's Club. When there was a death in the community, she would be one of the first to comfort the grieving-usually with a pan of cinnamon rolls.
Work on the farm was never-ending. Gloria wasn't only the cook (and a great one, at that) cleaner and laundry lady for her family. She ran a tractor, drove beet trucks, hoed beans, sold eggs and chickens, baked goods, and decorated cakes. Many weddings, birthdays, and graduations had one of her beautiful cakes for those celebrations. Many folks will remember her holiday cookie/candy tea she hosted every December, not to mention all the cookie and candy plates delivered to friends, families, and businesses. She also managed to raise a large vegetable garden, did canning, and grew flowers.
These skills were shared as a 4-H leader for many years. Later in life she was the local Ombudsman, the Ovid Librarian, and worked for the Area on Aging. She provided a "medical taxi" for many. She and Bud were very devoted to Eastern Colorado Services for the Developmentally Disabled. They were honored to be the Grand Marshalls at the Sedgwick County Fair Parade a few years ago.
Somewhere in all that, they had time for a bit of fun square dancing and being in card clubs. They also enjoyed traveling, with some highlights being Hawaii, Jamaica, Montreal, Scotland, Ireland, and Alaska.
Gloria will be missed by her husband, Bud; children Wayne (Susan), Ovid, Mary Lu, Julesburg, and David (Sharla), Ovid; grandchildren Kimberly Kinnison, Philadelphia PA, and Korry (Holly)Kinnison, Stapleton NE, great-grandchildren Michael (Alex), Ovid, Candice, Gabriel Robertson, Jackson, Azrael, grand daughter-in-law, Kelly Robertson, Oshkosh NE, brother-in-law Jim Brown, Julesburg, sister-in-law Charlotte Roubik (Dave) Highlands Ranch CO, nieces and nephews Aaron Rees (Julie), Erie CO, Larry Brown (Keri) Parker CO, Andie Tate (Scott), Pittsford NY, Rob Roubik (Cindy) Chicago IL, Megan Dobson, Denver CO, and special friends Linda Kliest, Joan Powell, and Virginia Miller.
