Duane Aulston

Duane Alan Aulston was born in Cortez, Colorado, on July 21st, 1951, to Russell and Lolita (Burgaard) Aulston.

After a long battle with cancer, at age 73, Duane was called home to meet the Lord on December 13, 2024.

He grew up on a farm in southwest Colorado and attended grade school in Pleasant View, Colorado. Duane graduated from Montezuma County High School in Cortez, Colorado. After graduation, he worked at Helms Implement Company.

He met and married Paula King in 1972. Together they had a daughter, Stacy (Arlen Kyhl). Eventually, Duane found his way back to Cortez, where he met and married Lorie (Hoeneman) in 1978.

In May of 1979, he and Lorie made the move to Julesburg, Colorado, and were blessed with two daughters, Stephanie (Willie) Trimble and Anna Aulston.

In Julesburg, Duane worked at Reed Merrill Implement from 1979 to 1993. After leaving, he started a career as a parts salesman traveling the surrounding areas. He enjoyed meeting new people and taking care of his customers until his retirement in 2020. Throughout his years of employment, Duane earned many accolades from the companies he worked for.

Duane had very strong faith and was active in the Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher, elder, trustee, and a brief stint as a Sunday School teacher. Duane enjoyed farming in the summer for the Bauerle family and did this for many years as well. He was known for his ability to fix and build almost anything he put his mind to, completing many projects over the years. He also had a love for classic cars and trucks and would take his '48 Chevy to area car shows.

Duane is preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law (Ione and Marvin), infant daughter, sister and brother-in-law (Lita and Richard), father (Russell), and sister-in-law (Linda).

He is survived by his wife; three daughters; mother; brother (Gene); Grandchildren Travis, Trevor, Tristen, Cordell, and Ivory; great-grandson Hudson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Prairie Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Julesburg. There will be a memorial book signing from 8:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, the 19th for those unable to attend the service. After the service on Friday, there will be a reception at the Public Library in Julesburg.
