Clifford "Chip" D. Vogt ascended to his heavenly home at the remarkable age of 93 on the serene morning of January 17th, 2025. Born on October 4th, 1931, to the loving embrace of Arthur Nathaniel and Eliza Chloe (Barnes) Vogt in the quaint town of Chappell, NE, Chip was the cherished 10th child in a bustling family of 11, though two of his siblings-a sister and a brother-sadly left the world as infants.
After proudly graduating from Chappell High School in 1950, Chip answered the call of duty by joining the United States Air Force during the turbulent times of the Korean War. It was near the coveted grounds of Yale University, during his special training, that destiny unfurled, leading him to meet the love of his life, Louise Hunley. Their souls intertwined in a beautiful union on August 30th, 1951, marking the beginning of a breathtaking 73-year love story-an epic tale of devotion, laughter, and unwavering support.
The couple soon found themselves at Lackland Air Force Base in vibrant San Antonio, Texas, where they welcomed their first two beloved children, Evelyn Gaye and Michael Arthur, into the world. In 1955, they returned to the nurturing embrace of Chappell, NE, where Chip toiled selflessly for a local farmer, epitomizing the essence of hard work and humility. Their journey then took them to Big Springs, NE, in 1959, where, in a beautiful twist of fate, their third son, Tom Allen, was born in Julesburg, CO, seemingly weaving yet another thread into the rich tapestry of their family.
Chip led a simple yet profoundly meaningful life, always demonstrating an unshakeable devotion to his faith in God and a boundless love for his family. Together, they created sun-drenched memories filled with joyful moments-playing softball, casting lines while fishing, venturing into the wild on hunting trips, and embarking on cherished camping excursions, all culminating in the delightful tradition of vacations every June. When the title of 'grandfather' graced his life, Chip embraced it with open arms, immersing himself in the joy of creating magical moments and heartfelt adventures with all of his beloved grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy brimming with love and laughter that will echo through the hearts of those who knew him.
A man of unparalleled kindness, Chip possessed a servant's heart that shone brightly throughout his life. His commitment to his community was unwavering; as a longstanding member of the town board and a devoted Mayor, he poured his soul into ensuring the welfare of those around him. His steadfast service as Treasurer for the Assembly of God Church in Big Springs and his membership in the American Legion Big Springs Post showcased his passion for nurturing relationships and uplifting spirits.
In 1959, Chip joined the grain elevator as a bookkeeper and assistant manager, where his reputation for integrity and meticulous attention to detail became his hallmark. He poured his heart into his work, rising through the ranks to become the esteemed elevator manager, a role he dedicated himself to until 1992.
When Chip hung up his hat after years of dedicated service at the Co-op, a new chapter blossomed for him and Louise. They transformed into spirited snowbirds, reveling in the warmth of Mesa, AZ, their hearts soaring together under the vast blue skies for several blissful months each year. Yet, after a decade of basking in the sun, the call of the world's wonders became irresistible; they made the bold decision to embark on exhilarating cruises to distant shores, exploring the untamed beauty of the oceans. Chip and Louise were the embodiment of adventure, their spirits intertwined in every thrilling escapade, as long as they were embracing it together.
Chip is lovingly survived by his wife, Louise Vogt of Big Springs, NE.
