Betty L. Walter

Betty Lou Walter, 81, of Julesburg, Colorado, passed away on October 14, 2023, due to an auto accident.

Betty was born on November 23, 1941, in Denver, Colorado, to Jack and Willa (Hallman) Hinchman. She graduated from East High School in Denver.

In 1961, Betty married Gary E. Walter in Denver. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Tamara and Robin.

In her earlier years, Betty worked as a real estate agent and a teacher's aide before serving as a customer representative at the Aurora City Water Department, a job she held for 18 years. Betty retired in 2013, and she and Gary elected to move to the town of Julesburg, Colorado, in 2016.

Betty had a zest for life. She held a deep passion for quilting, ensuring that each of her great-grandchildren received one of her unique gifts. Betty was a true fan of drag racing and the Denver Broncos. The drag strip was a special place for Betty and her husband and was the primary draw for them to the area they would come to call home. Betty also had a fondness for puzzles. She was deeply devoted to her family, cherishing every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Gary Walter of Julesburg; her daughters, Tamara (Scott) Jackson and Robin (Jeff) Shamburg, both of Aurora, CO; nine grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. Betty Lou also leaves behind other relatives and friends who will fondly remember her. She was preceded in death by her parents, sibling Barbara Steinbach, the grandmother who raised her, Nanny, and her granddaughter, Tiffany Jackson.

Memorial services will be held on October 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Jerry L. Maurer officiating at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Julesburg. No inurnment is planned at this time.
