Betty Lou Strack (Fitzgerald) of Julesburg, CO passed away at age 88 on Sunday, February 21, 2021. A service will be held at the Julesburg Christian Church at 122 W 5th St on Saturday, February 27th at 2 pm. Kerry Johnson will officiate.
Betty made her home in Sedgwick County since 1968 when she and her husband, James "Jim" Freitag and four children moved to Sedgwick. She was a homemaker for most of her adult life, but she did work for Northeast Colorado BOCES as an aide when her children were older. Betty also provided childcare for many local children throughout the years. After Jim passed in 1987, she moved to Julesburg where she worked as an apartment manager. In 1995 Betty married Johnny Strack. Betty was born in Hannibal, Missouri on April 21, 1932 and raised there with 6 siblings; Walter, Robert, Julia, Dorothy, Johnny and Charles. Her father Leon Fitzgerald passed in 1936 when she was 3, and her mother Bessie Mae (Collins) in 1946 when she was 13. Although born in the Depression, living through World War 2, and losing both parents as a child, Betty always showed strength and perseverance with a positive, upbeat attitude. Her favorite saying was to "always count your blessings," which her 4 children heard often. Betty will be "missed but never forgotten."
She is preceded in death by her parents, all 6 siblings, and first husband Jim. Betty is survived by her husband Johnny, Jim's sisters Marie McDaniel, Ethel Knight and Della Rock whom she considered her sisters, her 4 children; James (Vicki) Freitag of Washington state, Mary Clark of Sterling, CO, Roger (Sue) of Parker, CO, and Ethel (Craig) of Julesburg, CO; 9 grandchildren; Christopher, Joshua, Michael, Derek, Jacob, Jonathan, Samantha, Tara and Jason; 13 great- grandchildren and 2 great, great-grandchildren.
