Sachiye "Betty" Shimamoto, 96, of Julesburg, passed away on March 29, 2024, at the Sedgwick County Nursing Home.
Betty was born December 27, 1927, at Seattle Washington to Keishiro Urahama and Kei Morita. Betty lived in Seattle, WA, as a young girl before her family returned to Japan before WWII. She graduated from high school while in Japan. It was during her time in Japan that Betty became a survivor of the nuclear attack on Nagasaki.
On September 23, 1950, Betty married Tadao George Shimamoto at El Paso County. The couple had no children of their own but fostered deep connections with the nieces and nephews as if they were their own children.
Betty and Tad made their home in Sedgwick County, Colorado, where they farmed with Tad's brothers. Along with the Inouye brothers, the group started the T&T Company in the early 1950s, through which they retailed hardware, planters, and cultivating tools, among many other things.
Betty loved to sew and also had a love for photography. She took care of several cats, enjoyed and took pride of her flowers and summer vegetable garden. She maintained her sharp intellect throughout her life. She had an appreciation for the life she and her husband made in Sedgwick County, and felt an abiding connection with her many friends there. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the community for their friendship and support.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband in 2014.
Survivors include her sister, Sadako Margie Urahama of CA; cousin Fumiko Hirose of Japan, her brother-in-law Yoshiharu "Yo" Shimamoto (Betty), and sister in-law Yuriko Shimoda, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
